MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 23 44v5o
Texas Rangers vs. Chicago White Sox 3p2b1e
First Pitch – 4:10 pm EST

We rode this series to an NRFI on Friday and we’re looking for one again on Saturday. This game has a slightly less dominant pitching matchup, but the bats remain the same.
For the top of the first, we’ll see Jonathan Cannon, who has been solid for the Southsiders this year. He has a 3.76 ERA and has seen an uptick on his strikeout numbers as of late. In his last two start (11.0 innings), he fanned nine batters while allowing just three earned runs. Texas is 27th in the majors in runs scored with just 3.31 per game. As a result, I think Cannon can get out of the first unscathed.
Jack Leiter gets the assignment for the bottom of the first. His ERA is a little higher due to some early season outings, but he’s settled in nicely the last few games as well. In his last two starts (13.0 innings), he’s allowed just four earned runs. That comes out to a 2.77 ERA in that span. Additionally, the White Sox are back to their last years trend when it comes to scoring runs. They are one of the three teams behind the Rangers in scoring runs – putting up just 3.29 per game at this stage in the season.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 24: No (-135)
Seattle Mariners vs. Houston Astros 324h66

The Mariners have been a better hitting team this year, but have fallen on tough times closing out the week. In their last four games, they’ve scored just 13 total runs (3.25 per game). Things likely won’t get much easier for them as they face Framber Valdez on Saturday. Valdez has been mowing down his opponents as of late. In his last 22.0 innings, he’s picked up 22 strikeouts and posted a 2.05 ERA in that span. As well as we’ve seen the Mariners this year, how they’ve slowed and the run that Valdez is on gives me confidence in the NRFI.
The bottom of the inning should go smoothly too. One reason is just how bad the Astros have been in the first inning. This season, no team has been worse at scoring runs in the first inning. They average 0.22 first inning runs per game. Bryan Woo should be able to keep that run going for them. His 2.65 ERA is just a quick snapshot at how good he’s been. He also has held his opponents to one or fewer runs in three of his last four starts.
