Hello everyone and welcome to the third edition of this Dynasty Fantasy Football Trade Advice series. To this point we have covered the quarterbacks and running backs, so today we will move on to the wide receivers. Unlike running backs, wide receivers are highly sought after the whole year and are considered the backbone of dynasty rosters. 2r2r4t
They have significantly longer careers and offer much more consistent production when you factor in injury risk. With that, below I will discuss five of the more polarizing wide receivers of the 2023 off-season. This will include exploring their future outlook as well as possible trade options.

DK Metcalf – Seattle Seahawks 4b32w
Despite a relatively modest WR16 finish in PPR leagues, DK Metcalf had a very good season with Seattle in 2022. He finished the year with 1048 yards and 6 touchdowns despite adjusting to a new quarterback and starting the year off on the slower end. This exceeded the expectations many had for him as many thought that the Seattle offense would be a disaster.
While targets were never an issue, Metcalf struggled to connect with Geno Smith in the early parts of 2022. Starting in week 8 though, Metcalf had eight or more targets in nine of his last 11 games including the playoffs. He vastly out-targeted Lockett over this span and was terrific against the 49ers in their playoff game.
Fast forward to 2023 and I believe Metcalf is due for his second top 10 PPR wide receiver finish of his career. In dynasty leagues, he’s going behind the likes of Stefon Diggs, Davante Adams, and Tee Higgins who I would swap out for him in a heartbeat. As a result, I’ll be buying while another finish outside the top 12 wide receivers keeps his price down.

Tee Higgins – Cincinnati Bengals 4e4f33
Tee Higgins is one of the most talented wide receivers in the NFL. Nonetheless, if analysts are ranking him in their top 10 dynasty wide receivers, it could be time to sell. This is through no fault of his own though, as he plays in one of the most talented offenses in the NFL.
Through three NFL seasons, Higgins has never accumulated over 1,091 receiving yards or better than a WR18 finish in fantasy leagues. While his skill is obvious, it is hard to produce WR1 numbers with Ja’Marr Chase in the lineup. When Chase has been out, Higgins has been fantastic. However, when Chase does play his production has been boom or bust for fantasy managers.
If you were to hang onto Tee Higgins this off-season you would get no argument from me. He’s finished as a top 24 wide receiver each of the last two seasons, and is either due to either be traded or paid in the next 18 months. He is a great player, but that is a lot of uncertainty for a receiver ranked as highly as he is.

Jerry Jeudy – Denver Broncos 5w3x7
While many thought Courtland Sutton would have a breakout campaign in 2022, it was Jerry Jeudy who had the better season for the Broncos. He wound up catching 67 es for 972 yards and 6 touchdowns. However, those stats don’t tell the whole story. Jeudy missed two games due to injury, and was actually the WR11 in PPR leagues after week 7.
Furthermore, after Sutton started the year off strong, it was Jeudy who carried the load for a struggling Broncos’ offense. Quarterback Russell Wilson didn’t have much success in 2022, but the little he had was directed mostly at Jeudy. The route running and technique he was known for at Alabama were evident in the latter half of the year.
Looking toward 2023 the outlook is much brighter for Jeudy and the rest of the Denver offense. Sean Payton was just hired as their head coach, and part of being hired involved him introducing an idea to fix Wilson and the Broncos’ ing game. I expect Jeudy to lead the receiving room, and he has top 12 fantasy upside.

Stefon Diggs – Buffalo Bills 4g5z5o
This is the one easy “sell because they’re getting old” argument I will use for this piece. As many are well aware, Stefon Diggs just finished his eighth NFL season and recently turned 29 years old. There are actually extensive articles written about the steep decline shown by many wide receivers around their age 30 season.
Unfortunately, we might have seen some of that decline this past season as well. Despite finishing as the WR4 in PPR leagues, Diggs had a bit of an up and down season after Josh Allens’ elbow injury. He wound up finishing outside the top 30 receivers six times, and was held in check in their final playoff game. While I think he will be excellent in 2023, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to explore the dynasty trade market.
Many will argue that because Diggs is an aging asset you won’t get proper value for him. While there is merit to this argument, I disagree. Trading for 2023 picks may be difficult, nevertheless, Diggs’ is still a consensus top 10 dynasty receiver. Trade him instead for a young wide receiver and a 2024 rookie pick would be my ideal trade scenario.

Jameson Williams – Detroit Lions 1p6j5g
Amon-Ra St. Brown has been fantastic for fantasy managers, and he is also opening up an excellent buy window for one of his teammates. Coming off a year in which he played just six games recovering from ACL surgery, Jameson Williams should be fully healthy going into off-season activities. Due to the presence of Brown, he is being undervalued in dynasty fantasy football leagues as well.
This is a player who was the No. 12 overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft, with an elite athletic profile, and a strong final collegiate season. This includes a 4.3 40-yard dash time and an 84th-percentile speed score at the combine. Additionally, after a quiet two seasons at Ohio St., Williams transferred to Alabama. He then was able to accumulate 1579 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior.
While the offense is crowded with Brown, Swift, as well as Chark potentially returning, it doesn’t matter. Trust the talent in dynasty leagues as there isn’t anything that happened last season to suggest Williams can’t live up to his potential. It was known it was likely going to be a lost rookie season for him, and recency bias can be your friend here.
