On our first of the two NRFI bids for the Monday holiday we head to Arlington. I like this one to stay blank for a number of reasons – the first of which is the way Toronto is hitting this season. They rank 28th in first inning runs this season with 0.31 per game. They aren’t much better across the whole game, where they rank 22nd in the league. Those numbers are unlikely to go up with this pitching matchup. Jacob deGrom takes the bump on Monday along with his 2.33 ERA. I highly doubt the Blue Jays will see much in the way of offense in any part of the game, let alone the first inning.
Texas hasn’t been any better with the bats, in fact they are one of the few teams scoring a lower rate than the Jays. They rank 27th in runs scored and have scored just 14 runs in their last five games. Now they’ll face Kevin Gausman, who has settled in nicely the last few games. He’s coming off his best outing of the year, throwing 7.0 scoreless against San Diego while striking out nine. He also didn’t walk a batter and only allowed three hits in that one. If we see that version of Gausman, the NRFI should be a cake walk.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 26: No (-145)
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Cleveland Guardians 511f51

It’s always tough to trust an NRFI with the Dodgers involved, but Monday might be the right time to strike. For one, they have a tough pitching matchup in Gavin Williams. He’s allowed just three earned runs over his last three starts (16.0 innings). In that same span, he’s fanned 20. Additionally, the Dodgers have slowed in their run scoring. Going into Sunday’s action, they had scored 16 runs over their last four games. That 4.00 is well behind their season average.
The bottom of the inning should be less of a sweat. Yoshinobu Yamamoto toes the rubber on Monday and he, too, is coming off his best outing of the year. He threw 7.0 scoreless innings against the division rival Diamondbacks and only allowed a single hit. He walked two, but didn’t allow a base runner until the fourth inning. Cleveland has dropped into the bottom third of the league in runs scored, which means this NRFI should close out easy.
