Prelim Pick of the Week: UFC Des Moines 6w5j11
UFC Flyweight Fight: Juliana Miller vs Ivana Petrovic 1d1c6g
Start Time: Saturday 7:00pm EST (ESPN+)
In the curtain jerker of this week’s UFC card, I see a ton of value on the favorite, Ivana Petrovic. She had posted as high as -310 in some books, which I think is just due to bettors familiarity of her opponent from The Ultimate Fighter reality show. However, if you’ve watched both of them fight, you know Petrovic is a nightmare for her.
Petrovic is strong for the flyweight class and has dealt well with physicality in the past. She uses her strength to ground her opponents and hold them there. Her submission skills are strong and she does a good job of protecting herself from submissions when she’s on top.
That’s pretty much the entire gameplan of Miller – look for submissions off your back. She has added a bit of wrestling, but has gone 0-5 in hitting takedowns since coming to the UFC. She also has gone 0-4 in trying to defend takedowns. That should give Petrovic the ability to pick where the fight takes place and I see her taking it whenever it goes.
