What a performance it was last week for the Washington Commanders. Not only did they take down the one seed on the road, but they did it with a rookie quarterback. Jayden Daniels might be having the best rookie season of all time and has completely changed the outlook of the Washington Commanders franchise.
Whenever the game was in the balance against the Lions, Daniels stayed cool, calm, and collected, making every vital play down the stretch. Although it was an impressive victory, we can’t ignore the fact that Detroit was missing a number of starters on the defensive side of the ball. Philly is a whole different animal.
The Eagles might have the best-remaining defense in the playoffs. Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Nolan Smith, and Josh Sweat have been forces to be reckoned with for opposing quarterbacks. Vic Fangio has completely revitalized this defensive unit from last season. Rookie standout CB Quinyon Mitchell is dealing with a shoulder injury, which will be a massive loss if he can’t go.
Jalen Hurts is also dealing with a knee injury and was limited in practice on Wednesday. However, the Eagles have proven they don’t need quality quarterback play to dominate games. Saquon Barkley has been the ultimate fixer. Hurts has thrown for 128 yards and 131 yards in their two playoff victories, but it hasn’t mattered. Certainly, Hurts will have to play better if Jayden Daniels and this explosive Commanders offense gets out to a big lead.
That said, this Washington defense doesn’t impress me. I think points will be scored in this one. I’m staying away from the spread, although I would lean Philly.

Last week, I said Buffalo vs. Baltimore was the most anticipated matchup of the season to that point. Well, that all goes out the window when these two teams match up. The Chiefs and Bills always give us classics, although Kansas City has dominated Buffalo in their playoff matchups. No quarterback has ever beaten another four times in the playoffs in their career, and no team has ever won three consecutive Super Bowls. Patrick Mahomes can accomplish both in the next 18 days.
The best way to describe the Chiefs is inevitable. The Texans outgained KC by 124 yards and didn’t turn the ball over, yet at no point in the ball game did I ever think the Chiefs would lose. Thanks to Houston’s special teams disaster class, they fell short. Going into this game, I have serious concerns about Kansas City’s rushing attack, which only produced 55 yards on 22 carries. They’ll have to be better in this one to take some pressure off Mahomes, Kelce, and the ing attack.
Similarly, Buffalo was outgained by Baltimore but forced three turnovers, which proved to be vital in their victory. Josh Allen was surgical in the first half, but Buffalo’s second-half drives were underwhelming, to say the least. The Bills defense is an opportunistic group that relies on turnovers and mistakes from the opposing QB. The problem with that is, more often than not, Patrick Mahomes isn’t making key mistakes in the playoffs.
