NFL Week 8 Survivor Pool Picks x1e2a

Seven weeks in the bag and we are still alive! I wasn’t expecting as much of a sweat as I got with the Bills edging out the Jets 18-10, but we survive and advance. The only semi-big upset last week was the Cards over the Seahawks on Sunday night.  Hopefully you are alive as well and still rolling down the tracks with us. Let’s see if we can’t pick another winner with NFL Week 8 Survivor Pool Picks.

NFL Week 8 Survivor Pool Picks x1e2a

Kansas City Chiefs (– 19.5 vs New York Jets)

Taking the Chiefs is clearly the most obvious pick of the week. Sam Darnold is back for the Jets and they at least played the Bills close on Sunday. However, NYJ is still one of the worst teams in the league and now they travel into Arrowhead to face the 6-1 Chiefs.

The weekly “fade the Jets” strategy is still alive and well especially when playing one of the NFL’s upper echelon teams. It’s rare to see a spread this big in the NFL and its actually gone down a couple points from where it opened.

With that said, I’m assuming at least half of us (if not more) have already used up KC this year. Good for you if you haven’t. Take the Chiefs and move on.

Tennessee Titans (-5.5 vs Cincinnati Bengals) 1e4n20

After starting out 5-0, the Titans dropped their first game to the Steelers last week. Meanwhile, the Bengals fought hard vs the Browns but eventually lost by 3, dropping their record to 1-5-1.

Cincinnati won’t be able to handle the physical Tennessee rushing game. Expect a big outing from Derrick Henry and a nice bounce back game from the Titans. My only pause for hesitation is the fact that the Bengals have played almost everyone close (except the 27-3 loss to the Ravens). Does Smokey Joe Burrow have any upset magic in him?  Probably not.

Green Bay Packers (-6.5 @ Minnesota Vikings) 392b48

Apparently, we can classify the GB/TB game from a couple weeks ago as an outlier. The Packers are, in fact, a good team and cruised past the Texans last week behind four Aaron Rodgers’s touchdowns. They are now 5-1 and looking to leave the rest of the NFC North in the rear view.

The Vikings have the opposite record, sitting at 1-5. For a team that made the playoffs in 2019, the start to this season couldn’t be going any worse. Kirk Cousins is on the verge of being benched and their defense, especially the secondary, is struggling mightily.

It’s always risky taking the road team in a divisional game plus the Vikings are coming off their bye. It will be interesting to see if Minnesota comes out fighting or rolls over. I’d stay away from this game just in case.

Philadelphia Eagles (NL @ Dallas Cowboys) 6q

Do you have any faith in taking a team from the NFC East at this point? Is Philly the best of the bunch? Who’s going to start at QB for Dallas? Is that too many questions to start a game preview?

In all seriousness, Dallas is a train wreck right now. Dak is gone for the year and there’s a high likelihood that Andy Dalton is out with a concussion. That would leave Ben DiNucci under center. Furthermore, they have the worst defense in the league and are apparently turning on the coaching staff.

What a glorious year for all us Cowboy haters. Just sit back, watch them implode, and enjoy.

On the other hand, Philly isn’t great either and we do have another divisional game on the road. But, c’mon Ben DiNucci isn’t beating the Eagles.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-10 @ New York Giants) 2o145e

Are the Buccaneers actually a good team with playoff expectations, or dare I say, Super Bowl aspirations? We saw what they did to the Packers a couple of weeks ago, beating them 38-10. Then, avoiding the let down game, Tampa smacked around the Raiders, 45-20.

The offense is finally mostly healthy and starting to kick things into high gear. The defense is coming along as well. What if I told you the 5-2 Bucs lead the NFL with a +80 point differential?

Also, they happen to play the lowly New York Giants on Monday night. Unlike Daniel Jones, I don’t expect the Buccaneers to get tripped up in NY.  Go Bucs!

Teams already taken this year: KC, AZ, Indy, Baltimore, Dallas, Miami, Buffalo
