My first tip when it comes to betting golf, Don’t bet on Tiger Woods, whenever you do the most famous golfer of all time, all the value betting on Tiger Woods is completely gone. Yeah. maybe if you see a matchup prop, or will he hit the fairway, won’t he? Maybe. But to win a tournament or to get in the top 10 there is no value. Much like his marriage betting on Tiger Woods is over.
Another golf betting tip. Bet the course not the player. And what do I mean by that? Well, each course has its own personality, right, and certain styles match up with that course. Now don’t just look at the past leader board because those guys might not be playing the same and let’s say they’re not striking the ball as well. Well that’s not going to work as well for this course. So really do your research when it comes to what kind of style of golf matches with this course.
Another great golf betting tip when you’re looking at players value ball striking over putting because putting is hot and cold. If you’ve ever been on a mini golf course, you know sometimes you got it, sometimes you don’t. Your knees are knocking, you miss. Or you think it’s a three footer, it rims out, the cup can really spin you one way or the other, but ball striking, that’s consistent, right? Your woods, your irons, those guys that are great ball strikers, they’re consistent, they’re reliable, they’re your horses. The guys who are hot putting you can’t rely on them, so don’t load up on hot putters. Load up on hot ball strikers.
A common mistake when it comes to betting golf is just betting individual golfers to win the tournament, right? But there’s a lot more ways to get paid, especially matchup props. You think one golfer’s going to be really good. You think another one’s bad. That’s where you can get close to even money. That’s where you can get the (-110) (-120) over under on their rounds. That’s where you can get good, consistent bets.
Yeah, it’s fun to throw a couple darts out there, 25:1 for Bubba Watson to hit The Masters like I did in 2012 and I constantly bring it up, but for the most part, that’s not going to happen every time. And you’re really chasing money there. So keep it simple. Keep it consistent. Find those (-110) bets that you like.
One thing you always have to consider when betting golf is the weather, right? These guys are golfers, they’re not football players, any sort of rain, wind, crazy gusts, sleet, snow, whatever happens out on the golf course, that has a huge impact. If you look at The Open Championship, if the weather’s horrible, you can eliminate half the guys right there. These guys have enough to think about, right? They’re looking at the grass. Is that Bermuda? How long is that cut? It’s a mental nightmare. You factor in the weather. Forget about it.
So when it comes to betting golf factor in the course conditions factor in the weather.
